In Nunavik, the homeland to 14,000 Inuit located at the top third of Quebec, there is great beauty in the people, culture and the land…but there is also great hardship. Only one in four high school students graduate, and far fewer go on to higher education. Housing issues, food security and water issues, and abuse of all sorts are prominent, and Nunavik has one of the highest suicide rates in the world, and by far the highest rate in Quebec.

Consider that the suicide rate in Nunavik is 177.1 cases per 100,000 people….while the rest of the province that rate is 13.1 cases per 100,000.
*(2017-2019 Institut de la santé publique du Québec (INSPQ).

Please think about that….

The situation is a provincial and national disgrace.

In Aupaluk, the smallest of the 14 communities in Nunavik, Tarsakallak School is fighting back using sports and extracurricular activities to keep students engaged in their education, which is normal is the south but needs a great deal of improvement and funding to make happen in the far north where everything is more expensive due to shipping costs to the remote region.

This year, the school has designed a t-shirt that we hope you will consider purchasing to create a fund that will be used to promote a healthier and more hopeful path for our students. The money raised will be used to help us fund sports and extracurricular programs that will help keep our students in the classrooms and the school, where they belong.

We are charging 30$ per shirt, and all profits will go to the fund. No money raised will be used for anything other than our goal.

Thanks so much,
Russ Johnson
